Every Talāyee piece begins as an idea in my head. After many hours this idea is refined in wax at the bench. You start with a block of wax and file and carve by hand to refine the design, the proportions, the weight, the balance, and the feel, until the idea is ultimately translated into a wax. This stage is where the character of the piece is formed. Small decisions; a softened edge, a subtle curve, a softer band, determine how the jewelry will feel once worn. Because the original wax model is destroyed during casting, no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

Casting Solid Gold

Once the wax model is complete, it is encased in plaster and heated, allowing the wax to melt away, leaving a hollow form. That's where the term "lost wax" comes from. Molten gold is then poured into this cavity, capturing every detail of the original wax. This is the moment where the piece becomes permanent.
